This 2 day meeting which dealt with Testing Real-Time Distributed Financial Systems was moderated by Lee Mesnekoff, our Director of Development Services. Participation is by invitation only, and is usually limited to 15 people. Participants are typically a mix of experienced QA or Test Directors, Managers, Leads, Senior Testers and Consultants who have worked in financial firms or have a strong interest in the quality of financial software. In the business environment there are two certainties as well; taxes and software upgrades. When small and medium size business began to deploy technology in the early 1990's some of the biggest worries were related to operating systems and applications. There was no internet or email to deal with and database strategy was the last thing on the mind of business owners and executives. Fast forward to the environment we all live in today and there is an entire suite of technologies to consider in the technology used in your business. We now have to be cognizant of operating systems, applications, integrations, databases, network devices, phone systems, web sites and email. If you do any kind of analysis of your technology spend throughout the year you will certainly appreciate the magnitude of what you are actually spending and why it is important to deploy a strategy for controlling your costs and optimizing your business technology capabilities.
One of the first things you should do if you plan to deploy a strategy... ![]() In most mid-size companies IT executives are focused on day to day operations, and do not have a budget for support staff or long term strategic thinking. They therefore "pick" at due diligence over time, creating inefficiencies in documentation and process flow.
In an effort to create more "strategic time", many IT Executives are considering "multisourcing". This approach is dramatically different from outsourcing, which most executives tend to think about only in binary terms: Either we outsource a function (accounting, marketing, R&D) or we don't. Multisourcing is what Gartner defines as "the disciplined provisioning and blending of business and IT services from the optimal set of internal and external providers in the pursuit of business goals." ![]() Net@Work has again been named a Technology Pacesetter in the annual listing published by Accounting Today, Accounting Technology and Practical Accountant magazines.
