Effective as of March 2020, New York has passed new data security requirements. The “Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act” (SHIELD Act) imposes specific cybersecurity requirements on businesses.

The new law requires businesses to develop, implement and maintain “reasonable safeguards to protect the security, confidentiality and integrity” of New York residents’ data.
