Drawing References and Component Options for BOMs in Sage X3
Sage X3 has a little-known feature that is particularly relevant to our discrete manufacturing clients.
Drawing references can be recorded against production Bill of Materials (BOM) component records. When you add drawing references to a component line, there is no limit to the number of drawing references you can add. An information message will warn you when line references are not equal to the component quantity.
For example, a design engineer includes a circuit board as a component of a production BOM. The circuit board needs 10 LED lights to be attached. The design engineer uses the drawing references column to cross reference to CAD, manual drawings, or a file name.
In addition to drawing references, take a look at the other useful functions and “jump to” features available in the BOM components action menu:
For more information about any of the features available in the BOM components action menu, or for any other Sage X3 questions, please contact us.

Using the Requester Tool in Sage X3
The modern architecture of Sage ERP X3 provides flexible methods of obtaining the very specific information you may need. In this post we cover the Requester tool, which allows you to choose exactly what data to extract, and how it will be viewed.
The Requester consists of three tools you can use for creating queries. You can create a simple report listing or put the results in a graph, and then view either one on your Sage ERP X3 desktop. These tools are found on the Parameters > Usage > Reports menu.
Standard Requester
All of the Requesters function by using the temporary extraction of data in a table and running a query on the table. The structure of this temporary table means that each user can save the results of the last request carried out. Start on the Fields Tab to select the tables from where the information is extracted, set the order of the columns, and add groupings and page breaks at various points. You can specify a range for the data you need, and assign a code and description to your query. The Advanced Tab allows for selection criteria and linking. Access can also be limited using the Access Tab. On the Graphics Tab, you can define how to represent the data, such as in a grid or various graphical layouts.
Graphical Requester
The Graphical Requester works similarly to the Standard Requester, but adds the ability to visually drag and drop fields and create joins. Joins between tables are added by dragging the mouse between the tables. The Add a new expression field button launches the Formula Assistant where you can easily build a formula from existing fields, variables, operators, and functions.
SQL Requester
If someone on your staff is a SQL language expert, you can create query requests directly in the SQL language. This gives you the flexibility of including a complex select statement in your query.
For more information about using the Requester Tool, or for any other questions about Sage X3 ERP, please contact us.

Hope is Not a Strategy
Net at Work recently conducted a webinar and released a new white paper about how to leverage a technology roadmap to drive continuous improvement with your Sage ERP.
Did you know that 80% of leaders feel their company is good at developing strategy but only 2% are confident that they will achieve their strategy?! This clearly points to an execution problem within the company.
The new webinar and whitepaper guide you step by step through:
Current State Assessment: Identifying the strategic profile and operating model of your organization today
Strategic Planning: Formulating a 5-year vision and developing KPIs and roadmap necessary to achieve your vision (while remaining flexible to new opportunities)
Technology Roadmap Execution: Tracking the results
You can view recorded webinar here. And download the whitepaper here.
Remember that digital transformation includes looking at processes across the organization and how you are using the technology you already own. It’s not only about investing in new technologies! Look at the areas you can optimize and take stock of the capabilities in your current technology stack, including Sage X3. Roadmaps take people, process, and technology into consideration to ensure that your organization can consume the changes you make to achieve all the positive impacts of your transformation journey.
A complete technology roadmap considers other inputs as well including your brand and the experience you want your customers and other business partners to have with your company.
Here is a sample technology roadmap we show in the webinar as we discuss how you increase your capacity to succeed. Hint: you need strong resources driving the change and looking at all three lanes:
People – you need your people to be on the roadmap with you. Although IT is essential to continuous improvement in technology, these are not IT projects in a silo!
Process – know the processes you use today and why you do all the steps in the current process.
Technology – know what you have already and evaluate if you are using all the features available.
We hope you get value from these resources – let us know! And let us know if you have any questions or would like additional information on these important topics by reaching out to your account manager or me, Samantha Marshall, Practice Director Sage X3, at smarshall@netatwork.com.

HTML Email Enhancements in Sage X3 2023 R1
The 2023 R1 release of Sage X3 has been available since June 1, 2023 and today we’re sharing a long-awaited enhancement – HTML emails.
Prior to this version of Sage X3, the automated emails were text based and not as good looking or modern as many of our clients would like.
Building on the changes we saw in Sage X3 2022 R4 release to include HTML in Crystal Reports, now in 2023 R1, you can use HTML as the email text in workflow rules.
The previous editor (GESAWA):
New Sage X3 2023 R1 editor (GESAWA):
Note: This requires using the Notification server and does not work with the legacy email client meladx. When applying rich text (HTML) formatting, any formatting change that covers an expression (formula) in the text needs to apply to the entire expression (formula) including the pipe separators (|) .
For more information on Sage X3 2023 R1, please contact your Net at Work account manager.

Sage X3 2023 End User Group: New Jersey Recap
Net at Work recently held an End User Group for our clients that were within a short trip to New Jersey. It was a great meeting with lots of fantastic feedback, idea sharing, and networking.
To those there, it was great seeing you, and thank you so much for joining us at the first Net at Work Sage X3 End User Group! To those who were not there, we hope to see you soon. We are planning three or four more meetings before the end of the year (after the summer in September and October).
The End User Group consisted of sessions about connected Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Net at Work modules (X3 extensions), tips and tricks, and a roadmap presentation from Rob Sinfield, Global Head of Product, Sage X3 at Sage.
For all clients, whether you come to an End User Group or not, we are interested in your ideas for Sage product enhancements – you can post here on the Ideas site. You will need an account to post, but it’s free to sign up. Let your Team Manager or Account Manager know the link once you post, and we’ll make sure to vote it up!
We will be listening to all the feedback we gathered from our attending clients for future events and further improvements in the coming months.
If you have any questions or want to participate in a future event, please reach out to your Account Manager, Team Manager, or me at smarshall@netatwork.com.

Their loss is your gain! We have four brand new Zebra ZT411 industrial label printers leftover from a deal that must go.
Zebra’s ZT411 Series printers address a broad array of applications throughout manufacturing, transportation and logistics, retail and more:
See printer status at a glance and manage settings quickly using the large color touch display
Field-installable connectivity, media handling and RFID options let you easily add new features as your needs evolve
ZT411 printers are easy to integrate and manage, thanks to Zebra’s Print DNA suite of applications, utilities and developer tools–all powered by Link-OS®.
The result? The ZT411 offers the versatility, reliability and performance to meet your industrial printing needs — today and tomorrow.
A NEW LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE, VERSATILITY AND EASE OF USE
Configure your way with multiple connectivity options
The ZT411 comes standard with Ethernet, Serial, USB, dual USB Host and Bluetooth 4.1. Add the optional dual-band wireless card with 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for blazing fast and reliable wireless connections.
Built to handle a wide range of media and applications
You can count on the ZT411 to print a variety of different label formats on a variety of different media types. Add factory- or field-installable RFID technology to print and encode labels for greater tracking abilities and deeper visibility. Select Zebra’s exclusive ZT411 RFID On-metal Tagging Solution, which is the only dedicated option for printing and encoding thicker RFID labels for metal containers and assets.
Dual USB Host ports for added flexibility
Dual USB Host ports allow you to directly connect a wide range of USB device types. Use a memory stick to replicate firmware, files and configurations, or easily print and transfer formats. Simplify data entry by simultaneously connecting a scanner and keyboard — with two host ports, there’s no need to plug and unplug peripherals.
Designed to evolve with your needs
You can customize the ZT411 with a range of media handling options that can be installed in minutes. Two open media slots accommodate additional communication options. And, the robust processing power and memory can support firmware upgrades and new Print DNA tools for years to come.
EFFORTLESS TO INTEGRATE AND OPERATE
Large color touch display makes operation a snap
It’s easy to set up and use the ZT411 with its intuitive icon-based interface. The 4.3-inch full-color touch display allows you to quickly navigate printer settings with the user friendly icon menu system to change languages, printer settings, connectivity options and more. See color-coded alerts from a distance when the printer is paused or in an error state, so you instantly know what the printer needs to stay up and running.
Backward compatible with virtually any existing printer
Whether you are using a Zebra or competitive printer, you can use the same label formats and applications with the ZT411. Support for both EPL and ZPL makes it easy to migrate from another Zebra desktop printer. With the Virtual Devices app, the ZT411 can use languages normally associated with other printer brands.
Easy media and ribbon loading
The side-loading supplies path makes loading simpler, faster and more intuitive. The color-coded media path guides you on how to thread the media and ribbon through the printer, while lighted paths make it easy to see, even in poorly lit environments.
Space-saving design for an easier fit
Constructed using a bi-fold door, these printers are designed to easily fit in space-constrained environments. ENERGY STAR qualified, they save you money throughout their lifecycle.
Direct connection to your Industrial Ethernet network
With the Network Connect option, you can connect ZT400 printers directly to your Industrial Ethernet network without any additional equipment. This eliminates vulnerability points, improves security and saves man-hours in setup, management and troubleshooting.
Pair devices and access information at a touch
With the Print Touch™ app, you can pair ZT400 Series printers to NFC-enabled devices with a simple tap. Dynamic QR codes give you immediate access to the data you need, including Zebra how-to videos and product support.

How to Move Stock from a Previous Period In Sage X3
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you need to move stock from a previous period in Sage X3? For example, in April you moved all but 1,000 lbs of stock from QC to Accepted (A), but now it is May and you need to move the rest. The only issue is that April is no longer open—the stock period is closed.
In this blog post, we’ll show you how you can get around the indefinite period error and get those 1,000 lbs approved and put in the lot.
BALANCE ADJUSTMENT STOCK STATUS
The simplest solution is to try changing the stock status to Balance Adjustment (after confirming with Finance, of course). Balance Adjustment will prevent any new stock records from being entered into the system. However, it will also make it possible for you to update existing transactions. Since you’re just trying to change the status to A, no JE will be generated and therefore there should be no impact on financial statements.
You can also do this after hours as a precaution. In case someone else is trying to update an existing stock transaction in April 2023. After you’re done with the fix, please make sure to switch the status back to closed!
Here is an extraction from Sage help that describes what Balance adjustment means:
Balance adjustment
The period is open to price adjustment movements only. If not absorbed movements exist, they are posted on the first open fiscal period available. This status is used to modify an existing stock transaction (shipments, receipts, etc.) and to launch the price adjustment processing (issues and receipts).
Hopefully, this will help you move stock from a prior period. Should you have any questions about the balance adjustment stock status, or any other questions about Sage X3, please contact us.
