How many of us would answer ‘yes’ when asked if we love going to the dentist? Not many!  But it is important for oral health, and HDS creates a lifetime of healthier smiles for over a million residents across Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan. As the leading dental benefits provider in Hawaii, HDS introduced the first prepaid dental plan, initially covering the children of Hawaii Stevedores union employees, and then expanding to include more diverse industries, companies, unions, associations and nonprofit organizations.  Currently, HDS provides plans for Individuals, Families, and Employers.  HDS members have access to 95% of all licensed, practicing dentists in Hawaii and even participating Delta Dental dentists on the US mainland.

Good oral health is crucial for maintaining total health, helping to avoid heart disease, respiratory illnesses and stroke as well as a range of other ailments.  HDS partners with Community Case Management Corp to administer dental benefits for the State’s Medicaid beneficiaries.  Additionally, HDS partners with VSP, which provides substantial savings for eye care.  HDS also supports the community through various oral health initiatives, grants, scholarships and programs through the HDS Foundation.

HDS is truly a champion for oral health in Hawaii! 

In late 2020, HDS began the transition from their legacy system and started using Sage Intacct in January 2021.  Since then, they have been able to save large blocks of time doing approvals, as they can drill directly into the transaction they are approving, and, with the bank feeding directly into and automatically matching transactions in the bank rec, this process has been simplified immensely.  Outside systems now integrate directly into Sage Intacct, creating huge time savings and improving accuracy.  Additionally, the Directors and Executive leaders have access to Intacct to view budget and actual values, which is a big help to the board.  Now, that’s a lot to smile about!
