An Interview with Lynda Dixon, Senior Business Analyst/Consultant

Lynda Dixon is a Senior Business Analyst\Consultant in  Net at Work’s  Employer Solutions practice.  Lynda is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina, holds the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation and earned her Masters in Accountancy from Western Carolina University.  She is certified in Sage HRMS- Human Resources, Employee Self Service and Payroll products as well as Sage HRMS Cyber Recruiter, Sage Time and Attendance, and Sage HRMS Alerts and Workflow. She brings experience from a variety of different industries including manufacturing, health care, services, tourism, non-profit, as well as public accounting. She works remotely from near Asheville, North Carolina and is attached to the Raleigh, NC office.

What makes a good consultant?

Lynda enjoys working with the wide variety of clients she comes into contact with every day.  By bringing new and innovative solutions to our clients, she says, she helps to “modernize their world”.  As a result, HR and Payroll can be more effective.  Part of what makes her a good consultant, Lynda says, is the ability not to ‘sweat the small stuff’.  Implementations can be stressful, she explained, and a good consultant works with her clients to help them manage the changes taking place in the department, keeping the client calm and focused on the end results.

What is it like to work with clients remotely?

Traditionally, consultants went to client sites for full days of ‘all hands on deck’.  I asked Lynda what she thought about the trend now to work remotely with clients. “It gives them time to spread out the implementation work among their other tasks.” she said, “It gives them time to focus on individual tasks and get them done . . . . and it gives them time between sessions to think about their decisions.”

What would surprise your clients to find out about you?

Lynda laughed. ”That I spent a year living on the river in a motor home”, she said. Lynda took time off from her accounting career to work as a white water rafting guide on the Ocoee and Gauley rivers for the Appalachian Wildwater Company.  She said that experience taught her to put things in perspective.  “You are working in environments you can’t control”, she explained, “And when you encounter the unexpected, it can be stressful”.  Lessons she clearly has taken into her consulting practice.

Favorite Meal and with Whom?

Lynda admitted she was not much of a ‘food person’ so it was more about the who than the what.  But she admitted that “something over a campfire on a mountain” sounded pretty good to her if she could be there with her close family.

Lynda has had a career-long focus on implementing changes to enhance company efficiencies through improved processes and reporting with the goal of supporting better companywide decision-making. This includes the ability to effectively manage a company’s most valuable and expensive asset, its employees.
